Rust Clippy, Rust’s official linter has announced that age verification software will be included as soon as Rust 1.97.0. This comes with no surprise as Rust has historically standed with a firm policy of user safety.

Head developers at Rust have pointed out that while some might find the announcement uncomfortable, user safety and kyc (know-your-customer) guidelines are vital for keeping a safe environment, and that California’s Age-appropiate Design Code act is a huge first step for online safety.

We cannot allow minors, specially children to roam around unsupervised on the internet, and especially around programming and tech-related websites. I think that this initiative taken by California’s government will help take the burden off the parents and AI, and into our hands. I like being identified.

Other Rust developers liked the “relatability” aspect that it brings.

I feel like if we are all monitored, it really brings us all together. We are in this together.

No exact release date has been announced as of now, but it seems that Age-Verification is coming to the Rust world and is coming strong.
